An Endless Summer - Cover Reveal

An Endless Summer by C.J. Duggan
Series: Summer, #2
Publication date:  July 17th 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Sean looked out over the lake, squinting against the sunlight. He turned to me, his expression sobering as his eyes flicked over my face in a silent study.
“Come on Amy, I saved you once, I’ll save you again.”
I met his stare unflinchingly. “I don’t need saving.”
A wicked grin formed slowly. “Don’t you?”
After a rebellious summer night that almost claimed her life, Amy Henderson – the Onslow publican’s only daughter – is sent away to suffer a fate far worse than any other punishment:
Boarding School.
Three years on, a now nineteen-year-old Amy returns to Onslow for the summer. What once was a cauldron of activity with live bands, hot meals and cold beers, the Onslow Hotel now lies dark, deserted and depressing. All fond childhood memories of loitering on the hotel stairs and eavesdropping on customers’ colourful conversations are in the distant past.
How had her dad let it come to this?
With the new threat of putting the Onslow up for sale, Amy reluctantly turns to a local tradesman for help: Sean Murphy, the very same Onslow boy who saved her life all those years ago. With his help and that of some old friends, the task is clear: spend the summer building the hotel back up to its former glory or lose it for good.
In an endless summer, Amy soon realises that sometimes in order to save your future, you have to face your past, even if it’s in the form of a smug, gorgeous Onslow boy.

Cindy C Bennett was born and raised in beautiful Salt Lake City, growing up in the shadows of the majestic Rocky Mountains. She and her husband - who happens to be her high-school sweetheart - raised two sons and two daughters. She's now blessed with two daughters-in-law as well. She developed a love of writing in high school when a teacher introduced her to the joys of escaping reality for ten minutes each day in writing.
When she's not writing, reading, or answering emails (notice there's no mention of cleaning, cooking, or anything remotely domestic), she can often be found riding her Harley through the beautiful canyons near her home. (Yes, she rides a Harley.)

Here's my interview with Cindy and scroll down for Giveaway !!

Akansha : What sparked the idea for the novel ?Was it one particular event that sparked the idea or was it something else entirely?
Cindy :  I'd been asked by my publisher to write a fairytale retelling of the fairytale of my choice. I immediately knew I wanted to do Rapunzel since it's one of my all-time favorite fairytales. Once I had it in mind to do a modern retelling I began thinking about the story. In every incarnation it begins with Gothel either kidnapping, or negotiating with Rapunzel's mother to be given the baby for something as simple as rampion (a type of vegetable from the garden). So for me that meant there had to be something very wrong with Gothel who wanted to lock this child up in a tower and keep her from the world. Placing it modern day I had to come up with both a reason for Rapunzel to willingly stay in the tower and a way for her to meet her "prince". Once I'd figured out those three major plot points, I had the story.

Akansha : If you could be a character in your book, who would you be? If you could be a character in ANY book who would you be?
Cindy : I'd probably want to be Rapunzel just so I could date Fane. I think all authors fall a little bit in love with their heroes. If I could be anyone from any book, I'd want to be Hermione because that chick has magic up her sleeve to spare!

Akansha : If you had to pick your favorite scene from ‘Rapunzel Untangled ’?
Cindy :The scene where Rapunzel and Fane meet face-to-face for the first time is my favorite. Rapunzel's never been so close to a person outside of Gothel, and Fane has his feet knocked out from under him a bit by her. I like the intensity between them in this scene.

Akansha :  Which two things do you think readers would be amazed to know about you ?
Cindy : 1. That I'm a huge superhero geek. Superman is my favorite, but I also love Hulk, Iron Man,Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye (basically all of the Avengers) and Spiderman is pretty awesome, too. I'm totally fan-gurl when new Marvel or DC movies come out about superheroes.

2. I'm terrified of spiders. Not in your usual eww-there's-a-spider way, but in the I-don't-care-if-it's-dead-I'm-not-picking-it-up way. Want to drive me literally insane? Put me in a room of spiders. I can't even watch scenes with spiders (closed my eyes in Spiderman when he got bit) or movies about arachnophobia. Just thinking of it is giving me the creepy-crawlies right now!

Akansha :  Did you have a music playlist while working on Rapunzel Untangled?
Cindy :  No, I didn't. As much as I love music, I'm usually watching TV or a movie while I'm writing rather than listening to music. If music is on I'm too distracted by it. I can't even give you a single song that came into play while I was writing the book.

Akansha :  Which is your favorite fairy-tale of all time -book or movie by Disney ?
Cindy :Oooh, too tough to pick an absolute fave fairytale so I'll go by Disney movie fairytales. For years  my favorite was Cinderella - until the advent of Tangled. I adore Tangled. I suppose that now Tangled and Cinderella are equal because I just can't find it in me to push Cinderella down the list.

Akansha :   Dessert time !!Which one do you go for, ice-cream or cupcakes?
Cindy : Cupcakes, as long as they're not dry or some funky flavor (like bacon - ugh! Meat should not be on cake!). I like ice cream well enough, but given the choice I'll take a cupcake.

Akansha : What is /are your favorite quote ?
Cindy : "Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book." ~~~AuthorUnknown

Akansha :  Do you have any big writing plans for 2013? If so, what are they?
Cindy : I'm currently finishing the last two stories for my Enchanted Fairytales series of short story retellings of other fairytales. I'm working on a YA sci-fi story with two other authors, Jeffery Moore and Sherry Gammon. I'm also writing a novella for a three-story anthology due out in March. I've begun the sequel to Immortal Mine and hope to finish that in the next six months or so.

The Boys of Summer by C.J. Duggan ~~ Interview ,Giveaway

From Goodreads  :    It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’. Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ... Toby Morrison.

Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.
To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets.

How did she let her friends talk her into working?
After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos.

All with the one boy she has never been able to forget.

It will be a summer she will always remember. "

A Penny For My Thoughts :   Every girl has a guy especially an elder guy ,for whom she lusts forever .Somehow no clue how Mean Girls ,just get real and have the guy ,obviously for their popularity issues . But The Boys Of Summer is much more than your typical summer read . It's fast-paced ,quick witted novel that traces the journey from being Invisible to being Independent , from being a Shadow to being Your Own Light , from disliking yourself to loving both yourself and others .

My Rating : 4.5 Roads

Recommendation : Sarah Dessen ,Jenny Han ,Rachel Hawthorne and Hailey Abbott fans

PS: My Favorite part is ~~~~~~~~" A 'T' for Tess, a 'T' for Toby."
Tess's Necklace by Toby (My Version )

Here's my interview with C.J. Duggan

Akansha : What is your writing process like, what comes first, characters or story?
CJ :     Definitely the characters, they are first and foremost in my thoughts, they’re the ones that dictate how the story is to be told. Just when I think I have it mapped out one way to write the story, a character will usually throw me for a loop and take me in a completely different direction. Although I am very organised in my office, in my surroundings in the dead of night I write mainly by the seat of my pants with only a vague outline in my head on where I want the story to go.That’s the bit I love about writing, the discovery.

Akansha : Which is your favoriteSummer book or novel?

Channing Tatum as Sean Murphy
CJ :   I haven’t read many summer books and asking my favourite novel is like asking me to pick a favourite child (or in my case favourite pet!) I really loved ‘Anna and the French Kiss’ by Stephanie Perkins, I read it last year but it is still one of my all-time faves. It’s light, funny, sweet and beautifully written – great read.

Akansha : Does The Boys Of Summer has any parallels that could be drawn from your life ?
CJ :  I grew up in a small country town in Australia so I am well aware of what it’s like to have to make your own fun. Unfortunately our town wasn’t set on the banks of Lake Onslow but it was still a nice place to live. My first job was working as a barmaid at the local hotel and I remember the fear of my first shift and learning the ropes.

Akansha :.If The Boys of Summer was to made into a TV series ,which cast would you choose ?
Matt Bomber as TOBY
CJ : The Boys of Summer characters are so unique in  my mind it’s hard to match them with celebrities. So I had to have a bit of a think on this one. Plus it’s an Aussie story so picking Australian based actors is really hard, so let’s just go with fantasy.
A young Matt Bomer would make a dreamy Toby. Channing Tatum would be the perfect Sean Murphy (I defy anyone not to swoon over them). I have a particular fondness for Adam Brody who would make a great Adam. That would make for some serious swoony, romantic, fun!

Akansha :  What sparked the idea for the series ?
CJ : It was something that has been churning in my mind since I was a little girl, even if it was something no more mapped out than a group of friends hanging lakeside over a summer. It was an idea that has manifested into an entire world and I felt that I owed it to that eleven-year-old little me to develop it into a story. I know I was eleven because I had found an old exercise book with the story plotted out in my child-like handwriting and I could seldom believe it was something that had been swimming around in my subconscious for so long. It fell perfectly in line with me doing NaNo that year (National Novel Writing Month) and that was that, in one month I smashed out the bones of ‘The Boys of Summer’ (TBoS). In writing TBoS I really wanted to capture the essence of growing up in Australia. I set it in a small fictional lake side town in the 90’s to give it a certain flavor and provide a rich setting for a coming of age story, it is an absolute labor of love.

Akansha : Which two things do you think readers would be amazed to know about you ?
CJ :   I was married in Fiji, on a little island at sunset.
I am real night owl! I write in the evening often not going to bed until 1-2am. All to get up at 7.30am for the 9-5 job.

Akansha :.If you had to pick your favorite scene from ‘The Boys Of Summer ’?
CJ : Without giving too much away, it would be the scene behind the velvet curtain of the D.J station.

Akansha :  Are you more of A Walk To Remember fan or Twilight Saga fan ?
CJ : Oh wow! Am I? Am I a Twi-hard? I guess I kind of am. Love or hate it for what it is I will always be eternally grateful to Stephanie Myer for it generating a whole new generation of readers. Although I also admit to liking Nicohlas Sparks I will pretty much read anything if it has a strong character driven element and a hint of romance.

Akansha :  Dessert time: Which one do you go for, ice-cream or cupcakes?
CJ :  These are such difficult questions. I am so very torn, but I think ice cream, unless it was a red velvet cup cake from Magnolia Bakery in New York, then the cup cake wins…Hands down!

Akansha :  Did you have a music playlist for The Boys Of Summer ?
CJ : Absolutely!

Music to me is such a huge source of inspiration for my writing. It can set a mood, evoke a memory, transport you to an imaginary time or place, it's a powerful, magical thing.

Here is a list of what I was listening to at the time I was writing my novel. Some will be story specific and others are just what I happened to be into at the time.
So sharing is caring and hopefully it will also help set the scene and feel of my stories for you the beloved readers.

Novel Specific

Linger - The Cranberries
Lightening Crashes - Live
Foreigner - Urgent
Bow River - Cold Chisel
Heartache Tonight - The Eagles
I Can't Tell You Why - The Eagles

Akansha : Which three colors do you think describe you and why so ?

CJ :   I’ll go with my surroundings. My house is an old Victorian so there are Burgundies, Brunswick green (heritage colours) throughout. But for some reason my office has transformed into something very different, it’s light and bright with antique white desk, bookshelf, pepper grey lounge and accents of teal knick-knacks on my shelves, so I am a bit of a mixed bag really…. it all makes sense now!

Akansha :  What is /are your favoritequote ?
CJ : It’s one that I have known forever and so I had to include in ‘The Boys of Summer.’

Forever My Girl by Heidi McLaughlin - Interview and Giveaway

Synopsis from Goodreads - I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.

And now I’m going back.
After ten years.

I hope I can explain that after all this time.
I still want her to be my forever girl."

Here's the interview conducted real time !!  (Scroll Down to enter giveaway, open Internationally !!)

A(Akansha ) :What made you write Forever My girl (or prompted you as in the first time you thought about it's characters)?
H (Heidi ): I came across a picture and saw this guy trying to win back the love of his life

A: What do you look upto for inspiration ?
H:  Photos, music, life events

A:Which is your favorite novel and why?
H:  I don't have one. Before I published, I reviewed at least 3 books a week - when you're reading that fast you miss out on capturing a favorite book
A:  Right ,but what about when you were a teen or some novel that helped you somehow ?
H:  From a teen, I'd have to go with Judy Blume
A:  Great ! She's one of my fav too

A :What is your writing process like? Any must haves while writing like chocolate, soda, or candles? Do you write from beginning to end or in pieces?
H:  It depends. Sometimes I need peace and quiet and there are times when I can pound out over a thousand words during a basketball practice. I think it depends on the chapter. I definitely have music and either Sprite Zero or water sitting by. And gum... I need gum

A: Describe your novel in five words
H: Hot, sexy, sweet, romantic, tearjerker
A:  Haha ! It just move miles up my TBR pile

A: Does your novel have any parallels that could be drawn from your life ?
H :  From my life... I wish my high school flame was a famous hot rockstar! Aside from football (hubs is a football coach), this is purely fiction.

A: Which movie do you connect to most and how ?
H: I'd have to say Friday Night Lights 10 years later

A: Do you have a dream cast for Forever My girl ?
H: I do. Stephen Amell for Liam. Miranda Kerr for Josie. Channing and Jenna Tatum for Mason and Katelyn. Chris Hemsworth for Nick and Blake Lively is definitely Sam
A:  Pretty cool !

A: State your one irresistible desire
H: To see my children succeed

A:What is something readers would be surprised to know about you?
H: Oh boy... That every chapter I write goes directly to my best friend, Yvette. If she doesn't like it, no one sees it
 A: That's quite a secret !
H:  It is. She sees everything first. It doesn't matter what it is. She's also who I brainstorm with - she's very involved in my writing
A: Such Friends are a rare commodity today
 H: Very true

A: Which season do you think you are and why so ?
H: Summer! I thrive in the heat, the sun, the flowers. I need it

A:  If you had a minute to go live on International Network ,what message would you give to world ?
H: That we are all the same no matter who we love

A:   If your novel has to be directed by female director ,whom would you prefer : Angelina Jolie or Twilight Director - Catherine Hardwicke ?
H:  Oh boy, tough question. Of those two, I'd have to go with Hardwicke. Not sure if Jolie could capture the love in my story

A:  Does second chances at love work in real life too ,as in accord with u ?
H:  I think it does if you have forgiveness in your heart. Some love is just meant to be and if you lose it, you can find your way back. My husbands grandparents met in 7th grade and had been together from that moment until his grandfather passed six years ago. That one love does exist
A: It is becoming difficult for forgiveness given the high abusive relationships people land themselves into
H:  Very true, but if someone loves you, they don't resort to violence to show it
A:  I wish people would realize that their anger is unchannelized energy and stop for a second and find a direction that is productive

A:  Just last question ,What are you working on now and how many books are going to be in this series ?
H:  Right now I'm half way through a new adult novel called Lost in You, which I'm hoping to have out this spring. And I've started work on the second Beaumont Series novel, which I'd like to have out this summer.
There will be 3 adult contemporary  novels in the Beaumont Series
